Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Team Lead Physiotherapist to join the Medicine Physiotherapy team at Princess Alexandra Hospital. You will provide skilled team leadership in planning and delivering high standards of physiotherapy assessment, management, treatment, and advice to patients on the medical wards. You will support advanced assessment and management of patients with complex or multi-pathology presentations, determining the best delivery of care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).

You will work as an autonomous professional, adhering to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) rules of professional conduct and standards, as well as the Health Professions Council (HPC) regulations.

Main duties of the job

As a Team Lead Physiotherapist, you will undertake service reviews and audits to evaluate quality, efficiency, and outcomes, implementing changes in practice to maintain excellence in clinical care. You will take a lead role in the supervision, teaching, and appraisal of physiotherapists, non-qualified staff, students, and multi-disciplinary team members in physio therapeutic care within this specialty. You will be assessing a wide range of conditions experienced by patients within this specialty, drawing on advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology, even in situations where conflicting evidence is present.

You will ensure consistent and effective physiotherapy practice across the team and support colleagues to achieve the same.

Job Role s & Responsibilities
  • To demonstrate expert assessment and manual treatment skills, applying advanced knowledge to complex patient conditions, ensuring safe and effective interventions tailored to individual needs.
  • To take responsibility for the safe use and maintenance of equipment, including teaching junior physiotherapists and non-qualified staff in its correct and competent use for both treatment and patient self-management.
  • To supervise, mentor, and appraise junior staff and students, supporting their professional development while fostering consistent high-quality physiotherapy care across the medical team.
  • To provide specialist guidance and practical instruction to patients, carers, and MDT members, enhancing understanding of physiotherapy interventions and ensuring a coordinated approach to care.
  • To manage and prioritise patient caseloads effectively, making clinical decisions independently while coordinating with the MDT to facilitate timely assessment, treatment, and safe discharge or transfer.
  • To actively engage in continuous professional development and service improvement, participating in training, reflective practice, competency setting, and evaluation to maintain and enhance specialist physiotherapy skills.
Person Specifications & Qualifications
  • HCPC-registered Physiotherapist with a degree or graduate diploma.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in medical and broad NHS settings.
  • Competent in Moving & Handling, BLS, Systm One, and on-call duties.
  • Experience supervising and educating junior staff and students.
  • Desirable: change management experience.
