SEMH Instructor | Harlow

Daily Rate: £130 - £160 (Dependent on Experience)

Contract Type: Full-time, Long-term

Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

Randstad Education is looking for a robust and empathetic SEMH Instructor to join a forward-thinking specialist academy in Harlow
. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and is passionate about improving the life chances of young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

As an Instructor, your primary focus will be to break down the barriers to learning by building secure, trusting relationships with students who have often been excluded from mainstream settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Targeted Instruction: Deliver a modified curriculum that balances academic progress with social-emotional development.
  • Crisis Management: Confidently manage high-anxiety situations using approved physical intervention and de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team-Teach).
  • Holistic Support: Work as part of a multi-agency team, including therapists and local Harlow support networks, to ensure students' EHCP requirements are met.
  • Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model, helping students develop self-regulation skills and emotional resilience.
  • Environment Design: Create a low-arousal, safe, and structured classroom environment that minimises triggers for students with SEMH and Sensory needs.
Candidate Requirements
  • Relevant

    Experience:

    Previous experience as an Instructor, Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), or Lead TA within an SEMH or PRU environment.
  • Strong Character: A thick skin, a great sense of humour, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential for this location.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with students who may use behaviour as a form of communication.
  • Transport: Good access to the M11 or local Harlow rail links is beneficial for daily commuting.
  • Compliance: An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service and a clear, checkable 10-year work history.
