Main duties of the job- Provide a gastroenterology service with Consultant colleagues to PAH, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment of illness, and ensuring the proper functioning of the Department.
- Work with Consultants and Senior colleagues to participate in the out-of-hours On-Call service and the Gastro team; support a 1:7 weekend GI bleed rota (with planned move to 24/7) and provide ward cover and endoscopy backfill as needed.
- Ensure the gastroenterology service aligns with recognised guidance (e.g., NICE, British Society of Gastroenterology) and targets (e.g., Cancer Waiting Times, New:
FU ratio); provide an endoscopy service meeting JAG requirements and KPIs. - Deliver gastroenterology outpatient care at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, St Margaret Hospital, and Herts & Essex Hospital; cover periods of leave as required.
- Contribute to medical audit, research, and clinical governance; participate in CPD and engage with departmental governance processes.
- Support future plans to work within the Community Diagnostic Centre for outpatient endoscopy services; work in multidisciplinary teams (Upper GI Cancer, IBD, Harvey ward).
- Promote excellent verbal and written communication with patients, carers, students, and staff; provide professional supervision and management of resident medical staff.
- Contribute to teaching, examinations, accreditation duties, and undergraduate/postgraduate education locally and nationally.
- Engage in departmental meetings and MDTs (Cancer MDT, IBD MDT, audit, M&M, Clinical Advisory Group, Endoscopy Users group) and undertake additional professional responsibilities as needed.

- Supervise resident medical staff; participate in teaching, examinations, accreditation duties, and CPD.
- Engage in departmental meetings and MDTs and undertake additional professional responsibilities as needed.

Essential
- Full registration with the General Medical Council.
- MRCPCH or MRCP or evidence of equivalent training and experience.
- Entry onto the Specialist Register or a Specialist Registrar within 6 months of award of CCT in Gastroenterology or date of interview.
Desirable
- An appropriate higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD or equivalent).
- Wide experience in Gastroenterology; satisfactory completion of previous posts providing professional training in Gastroenterology.
- BSG endoscopy quality standards relating to diagnostic and therapeutic Upper GI Endoscopy and Colonoscopy (e.g., JAG accreditation or equivalent).
- ERCP experience and JAG certification;
Endoscopy Ultrasound (EUS).
