Job Description

Under the general direction of the HHSC IT / Customer Service and Support / DSHS Regional Office Support manager, this full‑time position (40 hours a week) performs complex work overseeing activities associated with Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and the selection and evaluation of components for data and voice telecommunications networks. Responsibilities include network design, installation, training, evaluation of potential enhancements, customer support, and management of Internet and Intranet web content for an assigned customer area.

The position requires compliance with applicable policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures of DSHS, HHSC, and DIR. Travel to other work locations may be required, and work outside of regular hours may be necessary.

Essential Job Functions
  • (40%) Serve as front‑line support for local and remote personnel to obtain support for problems involving PC workstation hardware, software, and connectivity to network or telecommunications systems. Provide PC desktop support, troubleshoot and repair hardware and software, document issues within the assigned Help Desk system, and meet Service Level Agreement (SLA) standards.
  • (20%) Install, monitor, and maintain hardware providing LAN services. Assist in support of WAN equipment and services. Support includes cable, hub/switch installations, limited router support, and related physical and logical structures. Monitor performance and liaise with the Data Center Services (DCS) vendor to ensure service levels for network server hardware, operating systems, and backup and recovery services.
  • (20%) Install and maintain hardware and software on agency workstations and other systems as assigned. Maintain patch levels, connectivity, and sufficient security software to enable customers to perform their responsibilities safely.
  • (5%) Provide limited instruction and user support for customer staff and/or local partner agencies on network, data, and telecommunications hardware, application software, utilities and procedures. Instruct customers on IT system use and HHSC computer usage policies as needed.
  • (5%) Ensure that network and telecommunications systems operate properly and perform or arrange necessary maintenance. May setup video conferencing equipment, satellite downlink connections, training room configuration, content delivery and related activities.
  • (5%) Conduct product evaluations for new software and upgrades to existing software, identifying potential benefits to the agency. Recommend enhancements to network facilities and evaluate strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits.
  • (5%) Perform other duties as assigned, including supporting disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
