Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan repayment reimbursement program. Eligible applicants must meet the VHA policy criteria and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after a full review of the application.
Qualifications- United States citizenship; non‑citizens are eligible only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA policy.
- Doctoral degree in psychology from an APA, PCSAS or CPA accredited program, or a 1951‑1978 regionally accredited degree with a primarily psychological dissertation.
- Specialty area of the degree must match the assignment being applied for.
- Alternatively, a doctoral psychology degree plus a completed re‑specialization program (including an approved internship) in an APA or CPA accredited program, with the new specialty consistent with the assignment.
- Doctoral degree from 1951–1978 with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature. Internships must be an APA or CPA accredited professional psychology internship, or an acceptable VHA‑approved internship, or a one‑year supervised internship at an approved site if the internship was not accredited.
- Board certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment is required if the internship was not accredited.
- Full, current, unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
- Non‑licensed applicants may be provisionally appointed as “graduate psychologists” (GS‑11 or GS‑12) under 38 U.S.C. § 7405(c)(2)(B) for up to two years, providing care only under supervision of a licensed psychologist.

- Proficiency in spoken and written English per VA Handbook 5005‑Part II‑Chapter 3‑section A‑paragraph 3j.
- Grades: GS‑11 requires no additional experience; GS‑12 requires at least one year of professional psychology experience at the GS‑11 level; GS‑13 requires at least two years of professional experience with at least one year at the GS‑12 level.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Application of a wide range of professional treatments and assessments to diverse patient populations.
- Design and implementation of effective treatment strategies.
- Incorporation of new clinical procedures.
- Research activities, including project design, data acquisition, and collaboration within a research team.
- Conducting basic research tasks and documentation.
- Professional advice and consultation in psychology and behavioral health.
- Knowledge of clinical research literature.
- Preferred experience:
licensed in applicable discipline; experience in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Written Exposure Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, trauma differential diagnosis, and personality assessment; prior VA therapist experience.
- Provide face‑to‑face and/or telehealth psychological services to Veterans at the VATVCBHCS, focusing on Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and EMDR for PTSD.
- Conduct assessments, deliver psychotherapy (individual or group), and consult with medical staff on Veteran care issues.
- Administrative responsibilities may include clinical program management, operation of psychology programs, and supervision of lower‑grade employees.
- Clinical responsibilities include diagnosing mental disorders using DSM‑5, integrating psychometric testing results, and performing comprehensive psychological evaluations for diagnostic clarification and treatment planning.
- Offer evidence‑based interventions for PTSD, including CPT, PE, and/or EMDR, and other empirically supported modalities for medical and mental health disorders.
- Serve as clinical supervisor for pre‑doctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate practicum students in psychology and related disciplines.
