Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.
DJJ is currently seeking a Training Supervisor for Residential Programs. This role Supervise training staff and programs dedicated to the development of residential employees, by providing leadership, supervision, guidance, and support to the training staff, conducting needs assessment, overseeing the development and delivery of courses and/or onsite training, and participating on assigned work groups. This position is critical in the agency's ability to comply with legal and regulatory requirements and to hire, develop, and retain a highly proficient workforce.
Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:
* Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws, and adjust to the changing needs of the organization.
* Ability to effectively supervise a professional team of trainers.
* Communicate verbally and in writing, at all levels, to promote cooperation between management, peers, staff, and customers; and provide exceptional customer service.
* Become certified and maintain certification as a Handle with Care (use of force) and Red Cross instructor.
Please note this role will require a valid driver's license and ability to travel within the state on an as needed basis to deliver training, facilitate group processes, monitor training, and/or provide training consultation, as well as adhere to state travel reimbursement guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
* Considerable knowledge of criminal justice, secure residential programs, adolescent behavior management, and safety & security.
* Demonstrated skills in the delivery of training to an adult audience, utilizing a variety of training interventions, as well as curriculum design, needs assessment, and evaluation methods.
* Demonstrated ability to teach; train others in presentation methods; develop instructional plans and supporting materials; to prepare training aids; and to supervise comprehensive training programs.
* Demonstrated ability to organize and schedule own work and supervise and direct the day-to-day activities of others.
Additional Considerations
* Knowledge of DJJ procedures and JCC operations.
* Experience in training program design, development, and supervision.
* Experience delivering formal classroom training and/or field-based/on-the-job training to an adult audience in a juvenile justice or criminal justice environment.
* Certification as a Red Cross and/or Handle with Care instructor.
* Experience working in juvenile justice, corrections, jail, law enforcement, criminal justice academy, and/or other closely related field.
