position purpose

under supervision from the custodial squad leader or custodial supervisor, perform a wide variety of cleaning and unskilled building maintenance tasks, event set up, and animal and insect control, which include medium to heavy lifting inside and outside the college’s facilities. Implement recycling procedures. This posting is for a first shift position.

required qualifications
  • 1‑2 years of experience (minimum six months to one year)
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively with others
  • ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying light to medium weight objects
  • must be able to work from ladders and step‑ladders to clean and maintain light fixtures
  • ability to operate and maintain heavy industrial cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, powered scrubber, buffer, carpet shampooer) and hand‑operated tools
  • understanding and knowledge of safe use of chemicals used in cleaning and insect control
  • familiarity or ability to learn different table/chair arrangements for event set ups
  • must be willing to work mandatory overtime when required
  • ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • must successfully complete hazard communication and blood borne pathogens training prior to performing work

  • daily: unlock and lock assigned spaces; clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff hard surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpeted offices, hallways, and common areas; wash windows; dust office furniture and window sills.
  • daily: clean public restrooms and showers; scour, disinfect, deodorize toilet bowls and sinks; wipe and clean counters/vanities; polish mirrors; replace and stock restroom supplies.
  • daily: empty office and common area trash cans; implement fo&m recycling procedures; pick up, bag, and remove all trash inside building and loose trash around building perimeters to designated areas.
  • as needed: change light bulbs; clean light fixture lenses; use ladders when necessary.
  • as needed: perform major set up and break down for college events (e.g., 30 tables and 350 chairs); set up based on design specified in work order; place tables, chairs, lecterns, podiums, dividers, platforms, coat racks, covers.
