Position Overview
Moosilauke Ravine Lodge Assistant Manager – a seasonal, temporary position at the Outdoor Programs Office (OPO) of Dartmouth College, responsible for assisting the Lodge manager and sharing in crew duties such as menu planning, cooking, reservation handling, event support, and grounds maintenance. Room and board are provided.
Seasons & Final date to receive applications- Spring crew:
April 15 – June 22, 2026 - Summer crew:
June 10 – August 31, 2026 - Fall crew:
September 12 – November 22, 2026
Apply by January 4, 2026 to be considered in the first review. Positions will remain open until all seasons are filled.
Responsibilities- Assist the Lodge manager in leading daily operations and crew activities.
- Participate in crew tasks: menu planning, cooking, reservations, payment handling, event planning, dining room setup, cleaning, gardening, wood splitting, and other projects.
- Lead the crew in first‑aid, safety, and ground maintenance duties as needed.
- Train and supervise crew members, rotate through rotating job roles, and conduct performance reviews.
- Safely plan, prepare, serve, and clean‑up meals for 10–110 guests (training provided).
- Coordinate reservations and assist guests in alignment with OPO priorities.
- Handle guest financial transactions and manage guest interactions.
- Host brief activities, talks, or programming for dinner guests.
- Maintain positive relations with trail and research crews.
- Manage Lodge funds responsibly and distribute crew tips.
- Coordinate resupply of supplies and conduct safety checks on systems such as propane and fire alarms.
- Primary point of contact for guest concerns.
- Cooperate with NH Fish & Game for search and rescue missions.
- Provide basic first aid and drive college vans with student guests.
- Represent Dartmouth College and OPO in all interactions.
- Ensure compliance with employment, food safety, and related regulations.
- Make decisions, improvise, and balance the needs of the team, OPO, college, and policies.
- Facilitate onboarding, training, and schedule creation.
- Supervise work and provide guidance and instruction to crew.
- Assist and delegate indoor/outdoor maintenance projects such as deep cleaning, mowing, kindling, and Lodge opening/closing.
- Give feedback on staff performance and run weekly meetings.
- Rotate through roles such as cook, sous‑chef, dish‑washer, day desk, dinner host, server, and other projects.
- High school diploma and some college or equivalent.
- Certification or ability to obtain Wilderness First Aid, CPR/AED, and Serv Safe Manager (training provided).
- Physical stamina for long workdays (up to 12 hours, standing).
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork.
- Strong organizational and program/project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Commitment to diversity and serving diverse populations.
- Approved driver status under Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Live at the Lodge during the scheduled work week.
- Previous experience at the Lodge or in food service/hospitality.
- Maintenance or repair experience.
