Physical Education Teacher
The Assistant Gymnastics Director works in conjunction with the Association Director of Gymnastics and is responsible for oversight and operation of the South Shore YMCA’s Gymnastics Department. This includes but is not limited to delivery of Age Group enrichment classes, Recreational gymnastics programming, Developmental gymnastics, leading summer gymnastics camp programming and Assistant Coach of competitive gymnastics team programming. The Gymnastics Program works within the jurisdiction of the governing body – USA Gymnastics and YMCA of the USA Gymnastics guidelines.

- PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Leads and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Responsibilities include the development of a progressive program for all level gymnasts, leading competitive & recreational teams and individual assessment and evaluation of all gymnasts in developing a personalized training program. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operational plans.
- STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Works in conjunction with Association Director of Gymnastics to Recruit, hire, train, manage, develop, coach, schedule, and direct part‑time staff and volunteers as needed to support programs. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Builds relationships with and among members, responds to inquiries and solves problems. Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause.
- BUDGET & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Follows department budget as approved in a fiscally responsible manner. Assists Association Gymnastics Director in submitting accurate payroll for the department.
- FACILITY MANAGEMENT
Work with appropriate branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive.
- VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.
- COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT
Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations as assigned by Gymnastics Director in order to strengthen support and build community.

Models and teaches YMCA values, inclusion activities, strategies and initiatives; ensures high‑level service. Provide volunteers with orientation, training, development and recognition.

- Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited College or University preferred
- 2-3 years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience specifically with coaching and gymnastic instruction
- The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and members.
- Effective coaching/teaching skills that follow YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Possess gymnastics certifications as applicable to competitive or recreational programming
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experienced with Microsoft Office suite.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
