You’ll design and develop cloud-native services using Java, Spring, relational databases, Kafka, and microservices that power customer‑facing experiences on our U.S. Banking Platform. Your work will directly support digital delivery, platform reliability, and scalable growth across Barclays’ retail banking ecosystem.

To be successful as a Java Developer, you should have experience with:
- Building backend services and RESTful APIs using Java (preferably Java 17+) and Spring Boot
- Writing and optimizing SQL queries and working with relational databases such as Oracle, Postgre
SQL, or MySQL - Developing modern front‑end applications using JavaScript/Type Script and frameworks such as React or Angular
- Applying domain‑driven design, microservices architecture, and containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes/Open Shift
- Using CI/CD pipelines, Git Lab, and automated testing frameworks such as JUnit and integration testing
Some other highly valued skills may include:
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, or experience working with internal PaaS platforms
- Understanding of Apache Kafka, including producers/consumers and event‑driven system design
- Contributing across the full software development lifecycle, from design and build through deployment and production support

Minimum Salary: $75,000
Maximum Salary: $135,000
The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

Purpose of the roleTo design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities- Development and delivery of high‑quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
- To perform prescribed activities in a timely manner and to a high standard consistently driving continuous improvement.
- Requires in‑depth technical knowledge and experience in their assigned area of expertise
