Performs a variety of work in the operation of the Village of Hanover Park Wastewater Treatment Facility. Responsibilities include monitoring and troubleshooting plant processes and equipment, as well as performing general grounds maintenance.
- Performs daily monitoring of control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage.
- Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and test results to determine load requirements.
- Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of wastewater through aeration, settling, filtering, and sludge digestion processes.
- Maintains logs of operations and records meter and gauge readings.
- Collects wastewater samples and conducts laboratory tests.
- Operates and maintains emergency power generating equipment to provide electricity for the plant.
- Performs preventive maintenance using a sewer jet and completes yard restorations.
- Removes blockages from sewer lines using various sewer maintenance equipment.
- Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Reports unsafe conditions and accidents to the supervisor immediately whenever possible, but no later than the end of the employee’s work shift.
- Follows recognized safe work practices.
- Responds to emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Performs other duties as requested or assigned by the immediate supervisor that are reasonably within the scope of the duties listed above.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of technical experience in wastewater treatment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Mechanical experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of collection system pumping stations is preferred.
- Requires Illinois EPA certification as a Class 4 Wastewater Treatment Operator.
- Requires possession of a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Air Brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
