Job SummaryUnder general supervision, performs police patrol, traffic control and enforcement, initial investigations into criminal and non-criminal activity and related functions involving the safety and protection of life and property. Promotes crime prevention, apprehends criminals, and enforces local ordinances, State and Federal laws and regulations in a designated area of an assigned shift.

- Associates Degree, or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college credit, OR proof of 2 years of active honorable military service OR proof of 180 days of active honorable combat duty, OR equivalent of education and military service
- Valid Driver’s License in good standing
- Valid P.O.W.E.R. card issued within the past 365 days
- No felony convictions and good moral character
- 35‑mile residency requirement after one year of hire
Interested persons must complete the Village of Hanover Park job application and take the National Testing Network (NTN) Law Enforcement – Frontline National written exam. The exam fee is $55, payable directly to NTN. A score transfer may be requested for $12 if the test was taken for another organization within the past 365 days.
Selection Process- Interview
- Background Check (4 weeks)
- Polygraph (upon meeting background check; typically two weeks)
- Psychological Evaluation and Physical & Drug Screening (after conditional offer; typically two weeks)
- Receive briefings at shift commencement and inspect assigned vehicle and weaponry.
- Respond to radio-dispersed calls for action, provide first aid, assist allied law enforcement, and public fire department during emergencies.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into reported criminal activity and notify supervisors as required.
- Investigate non-criminal calls such as civil disturbances, family disputes, missing persons, and other incidents.
- Serve as Juvenile Officer, investigate crimes involving minors, and coordinate with State Attorney’s office and court system.
- Apprehend, arrest, and transport suspects for booking and temporary incarceration.
- Patrol assigned areas by vehicle or foot, enforce traffic ordinances, issue citations, and monitor for stolen vehicles.
- Prepare reports and records, review sources, prepare cases for court and provide testimony.
- Perform community relations duties and public outreach on crime prevention.
- Follow safety regulations, report unsafe conditions, accidents, and maintain safe work practices.
- Perform other duties reasonably within scope of enumerated duties.

Education & Or ExperienceAssociates degree or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of accredited college credit, OR 2 years of active military experience, OR equivalent. Certification of training by an accredited Illinois law enforcement school within six months of initial employment. Bi‑Linguistic fluency is a plus.
