Overview

The City of Hanford is seeking to fill one (1) vacancy in the Parks & Community Services Department - Recreation Division. Under general supervision, provides technical, maintenance, and operational support for City aquatic facilities. Performs preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and water quality monitoring to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of public swimming pools and aquatic attractions. This position works up to 1000 hours per fiscal year and does not include any benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on aquatic equipment, including pools, pumps, motors, slides, filters, heaters, and chemical delivery systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections of aquatic mechanical systems and attractions; identify maintenance needs and perform general repairs as necessary.
  • Document maintenance activities, inspections, and any system or equipment irregularities requiring monitoring or follow-up.
  • Conduct regular water testing and treatment for public aquatic facilities, including monitoring and adjusting chlorine levels, pH, calcium hardness, total dissolved solids (TDS), and total alkalinity.
  • Apply appropriate chemicals to maintain safe, healthy water quality and monitor chemical use.
  • Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safe operation of aquatic facilities, including vacuuming pools and power washing floors as needed.
  • Perform backwashing procedure and calibrate, repair, and maintain chemical controllers, injectors, water flow meters, valves, and related equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of essential parts, equipment, and chemical supplies to ensure efficient operation of aquatic facilities.
  • Assist with planning and scheduling aquatic-related maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and local health codes, safety standards, and regulations governing public aquatic facilities.
  • Work professionally and cooperatively with park management, lifeguards, other staff, and the general public.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as required.

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Work flexible hours and varied shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
Experience & Education

Any combination of experience, training, and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
One (1) year of experience in general maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, or aquatic facility maintenance.

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

License and Certificate

Possession of a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification is desirable or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.

Physical Demands and Work Requirements

Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally up to 80–100 pounds (or heavier weights with assistance); bend, stretch, twist, and climb stairs; stand or sit for extended periods; and walk frequently throughout the workday. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
