The City of Hanford is seeking to fill one vacancy in the Utilities and Engineering Department. The salary and appointment level will depend on qualifications (DOQ).
Salary ranges for the available positions are:
- Construction Inspector I: $5,215 – $6,339/month
- Construction Inspector II: $5,761 – $7,003/month
- Senior Construction Inspector: $6,960 – $8,460/month
Entry‑level class in the Construction Inspector technical series. Positions typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. The service area includes learning the full range of duties common to the class.
Construction Inspector I – Responsibilities- Perform field inspections of construction materials, grade elevations, underground facilities, and related infrastructure.
- Conduct topographical survey work and make field measurements.
- Monitor correction of project deficiencies.
- Maintain current knowledge of and enforce ADA regulations.
- Prepare reports related to construction project activities.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co‑workers, city employees, and the public.
- Knowledge of: Surveying and construction staking practices; standard construction techniques; mathematics through plane geometry and trigonometry; materials testing methods.
- Ability to: Perform field inspections, analyze work papers, problem‑solve, interpret codes and regulations, use office equipment and software, maintain attendance, utilize safety procedures, communicate effectively, and relate to diverse backgrounds.
- Experience and
Education:
Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Typical: some experience in a field related to street/highway construction is desirable; equivalent to completion of the 12th grade. - License: Possession or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license.
Journey‑level class in the Construction Inspector technical series. Distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Holds occasional instruction or assistance for unusual situations and is fully aware of operating procedures and policies.
Construction Inspector II – Qualifications- All qualifications of Construction Inspector I plus:
- Knowledge of: Use of topographical surveying equipment; principles and phases of asphalt paving; soil types and characteristics; OSHA standards and regulations;
Cal‑DOT traffic control devices; traffic control and safety procedures; utility systems. - Ability to: Read and interpret complex regulations and technical documents; use standard engineering and hand‑held tools; interpret compaction tests; explain city encroachment and underground ordinances.
- Experience and
Education:
Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities; typical: two years of responsible experience similar to that of a Construction Inspector I with the City of Hanford; equivalent to completion of the 12th grade. - License: Possession or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license.
Under general supervision, the Senior Construction Inspector performs complex and specialized public‑works inspection duties, organizes and guides inspection staff, oversees encroachment permits and utility location services, ensures compliance with city standards, serves as liaison among city staff, contractors, developers, and the public, and performs related duties as assigned.
Senior Construction Inspector – Responsibilities- Review construction plans, specifications, encroachment permits, and other plans affecting assigned projects.
- Conduct on‑site inspections of construction materials, grade elevations, underground facilities, and related infrastructure to determine compliance.
- Perform topographical survey work and make field measurements.
- Conduct traffic and pedestrian studies.
- Perform and/or coordinate compaction and bacterial testing.
- Monitor correction of project deficiencies.
