In this role, you will ensure the safety, functionality, and efficiency of building electrical systems. Your primary responsibilities will include diagnosing issues, installing equipment, and maintaining electrical and lighting infrastructure. You will also support other skilled trades as needed and ensure that the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials are readily available for efficient operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct regular building tours, inspections, identifying needs and executing corrective action and/or coordinating with management and outside contractors.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
- Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices.
- Maintain good working order of company vehicle including refueling, report any mechanical issues and filling out and submitting monthly vehicle inspection form.
- Read blueprints or technical diagrams.
- Install, maintain, and enhance electrical systems and components, breakers and lights.
- Possess the ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Workdays and schedules are generally routine, however are subject to change. Be prepared/available to work nights or weekends, on a rotating basis, to service emergency needs of our customers.
- OT may be required without notice to complete work assigned – time off may be offered or required within the same pay period to meet budget demands.
- Follow all safety requirements including lockout/tagout and use appropriate PPE.
- Maintain proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the vehicle.
- Document all installed equipment: make, model, serial number, type of fuel, necessary test measurements, and pictures as necessary.
- Diagnose diverse service issues, obtain any replacement parts, calibrate system to manufacturer’s recommendations, and explain fully to Maintenance Supervisor what the issue is and what is needed to correct.
- Participate in company provided training opportunities on latest industry technologies.
- Identify and report to Maintenance Supervisor potential opportunities for additional business (newer system, service contracts, and additional services).
- Follow state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code.
- Receive and complete work orders while maintaining accurate records on material and labor.
- Requires flexibility and understanding that all maintenance staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the mission and goals of the Facility Services Department.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Certificate degree or two-year degree of an electrician program from a trade school or community college preferred or completion of an electrician apprenticeship program.
Certificates, licenses, registrations:
Valid VA drivers’ license.
Experience:
Requires three to five years’ experience in inspection, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting electrical system and equipment.
Skills:
Good analytical skills and attention to detail with ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and manufacturer’s installation manuals. Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations.
Physical demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with arms and hands. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must lift / move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work environment:
The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. The noise level is usually moderate.
