The City of Hampton is seeking a Traffic - Signal Electronic Technician Trainee to learn and gain skilled electronic and electrical experience including installing various types of traffic signal control equipment. The class works under general supervision, according to set procedure, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum Requirements- Requires high school graduation or GED
- Some experience in traffic operations preferred
- Electrical/electronic experience preferred.
- General knowledge of hand tools, carpentry, mechanics or painting.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria. Commercial Driver's License instruction permit preferred.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B within 180 days of employment.
- Must have the ability to be IMSA Signal certified and do so within 24 months of hire date; work zone certified within 6 months of hire date.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft word, Outlook and Excel Spreadsheets
- May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
