Join a team that brings communities together! As a Community Center Supervisor, you’ll lead the charge in creating vibrant, welcoming spaces where residents of all ages can learn, connect, and thrive. This dynamic role oversees the daily operations, programs, and services of our community centers within Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services. You’ll inspire and guide full-time, part-time, and volunteer staff while shaping meaningful experiences that make a real impact in our neighborhoods.

The purpose of this position is to plan, organize and implement a comprehensive year-round recreation program in one or more functional recreation areas for citizens of all ages in the City of Hampton. May be assigned to manage community recreation facilities or to develop and coordinate special seasonal projects. May assist the Program Coordinator or Manager in leading a team of professional, clerical and volunteer employees.

This class works under general supervision according to some procedures but decide how or when to complete tasks. Supervises full-time, part-time and volunteer staff.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation or a related field.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience in one or more of the primary recreational areas to include adult and youth services, athletics, therapeutics, aquatics, facilities management and/or senior citizen programs. A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
  • Must possess Basic First Aid and CPR certifications within 90 days of employment.
  • When assigned to Therapeutic Recreation a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification is preferred within 6 months of employment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
  • Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • May require working beyond a standard 40 hour work week to include nights and weekends.
  • May require some local travel.
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules
