Data Center IT Systems Architect
Location: NASA (Langley), Hampton, VA
ADNET is seeking an energetic, and self motivated candidate for a full-time and long-term position as IT Systems Architect to support NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) data center operations. The support position is as part of the Research, Science, and Engineering Services (RSES) contract. Employment will be in Hybrid form in Hampton Roads VA, with a preference for on-site work (2-3 days) Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.
As an IT Systems Architect, you will be providing skillsets that encompass Enterprise and Solution Architecture to the Atmospheric Science Data Center (ASDC) which is a Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) enabling atmospheric science data to promote open science and research activities encompassing airborne and satellite data. Within this role, you will be working alongside software developers, scientists, metadata subject master experts and Information Technology (IT) Professionals to provide the verified data to the end users and NASA mission delegates.
The need for Enterprise and Solution Architecture is critical to excelling in digital transformation, technology integration and innovation, and data accessibility. Within this role, you will be leading process improvement within IT and Software Development life cycles providing and implementing new strategies to provide increased value, identifying operational gaps, defining and diagramming solutions to operational problems, and building and explaining IT and Software Development design concepts to operations.
- Strategize and lead a lightweight process to manage and improve IT and Software Development life cycles to promote organization and clear guidelines to project/service initiation, implementation to operations handoffs, documentation assurance, and clear cut decision points at all stages, including a process to decommission technologies and services.
- Building and implementing new development tools and infrastructure in the cloud
- Building and implementing new development tools and infrastructure in on premise data centers encompassing Red Hat Servers, Red Hat Virtualization and Open Shift Kubernetes, and VMWare Virtualization.
- Understanding the needs of stakeholders and conveying them to developers
- Working on ways to automate and improve development and release processes
- Testing and examining code written by others and analyzing results
- Ensuring that systems are safe and secure against cybersecurity threats
- Identifying technical problems and developing software updates and fixes
- Working with software developers and software engineers to ensure that development follows established processes and works as intended
- Planning projects and being involved in project management decisions
- 5-10 years of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and/or IT Project Lifecycle experience
- Expertise with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including compute, storage, and data services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, and RDS
- Expertise with Kubernetes in AWS and Red Hat Open Shift
- Expertise with Red Hat Linux Server Administration, Virtualization
- Expertise in Data Center Architecture and Build Out Plans
- Expertise in IT Automation
- Expertise in forward thinking, being proactive, communicative, collaborative, while also focusing on innovation and integration
- Emphasis on Continuous Improvement
- Expertise with using Continuous Integration/ Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline automation platforms (Git Lab) to automate building, testing, and deploying of software products. Proficient with Git and Git Hub workflows
- Experience working in Lean Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Knowledge of relationship databases and SQL
- Experience implanting NASA IT project management and lifecycle processes (NPR 7120.7A)
- Experience using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology.
- Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
- Experience presenting at technical conferences.
