Job Summary

The Behavioral Coach provides 24-hour support and counseling services to adolescent girls with psychiatric, substance abuse, and mental health issues. They advocate for and respond to clients’ treatment and rehabilitation needs. All agency services are provided from a social rehabilitation philosophy, which integrates teaching daily living skills in a safe and healthy environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Provides life skills counseling and program supervision for residents in a residential correctional setting; conducts individual and group counseling; maintains progress reports.
  • Conducts needs assessments, formulates post-release plans, and works with residents.
  • Conducts intake interviews, orients incoming residents to the program, and explains rules, policies, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Creates a positive, supportive work environment, enforces safety, promotes teamwork, and fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Provides crisis counseling and refers residents to community resources as needed.
  • Maintains complete caseload files and prepares case records according to regulations.
  • Performs classification assessments, supervises residents based on risk level, and coordinates outside activities to ensure compliance with court conditions.
  • Provides administrative supervision in the supervisor’s absence, including determining resident eligibility, assessing escape status, and ensuring due process.
  • Assists indigent residents with accessing financial resources and monitors their financial obligations.
  • Prepares reports on program compliance, disciplinary actions, court reports, probation violations, and residents’ performance.
  • Maintains control and discipline within the residential facility; supervises residents’ activities and community involvement.
  • Attends staff meetings, conferences, and training; may speak at schools and civic organizations.
  • Performs searches and collects urine samples for evidence.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to physically respond during crises and restrain clients if necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS degree preferred; at least one year of experience with adults with mental health or substance abuse issues; ability to attend monthly staff meetings.

This position supports clients at our First Step Girls Group home, a licensed residential program for young adults with mental health disorders.
