As the Director of Inpatient Nursing, you will provide strategic leadership, clinical oversight, and operational excellence for all inpatient acute units at Riverside Mental Health & Recovery Center (RMHRC).
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, you’ll guide Nurse Managers, support a highly skilled nursing team, and champion initiatives that elevate quality, safety, and patient experience. This role is pivotal in maintaining a safe, supportive environment for both patients and team members while ensuring RMHRC remains a top-performing leader in behavioral healthcare.

Responsibilities- Provide day-to-day clinical and administrative leadership for inpatient nursing units, ensuring safe staffing levels, smooth operations, and high-quality patient care.
- Exercise sound judgment in staffing decisions and care needs, addressing changes, sick call-outs, and vacancies while holding team members accountable and communicating concerns appropriately.
- Partner closely with Nurse Managers, Directors, and the interdisciplinary team to promote patient safety, staff satisfaction, and exceptional outcomes.
- Serve as a role model and educator by mentoring, coaching, and developing team members on policies, procedures, best practices, and organizational goals.
- Delegate and prioritize tasks effectively, empowering nurses to work confidently and efficiently—especially during emergencies and high-acuity situations.
- Lead investigations related to care variances, patient or visitor incidents, and performance concerns; complete rCare and CHRIS documentation promptly.
- Conduct frequent rounds on all units to monitor care delivery, support staff, assess workflow, and ensure appropriate coverage.
- Ensure compliance with DNV, CMS, and other regulatory standards, providing leadership with essential updates to maintain excellence in quality and safety.
- Participate in strategic planning, quality initiatives, and process improvement efforts that enhance patient experience and team member engagement.
- Foster a culture of shared governance, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement aligned with the Riverside Code of Conduct.
- Education
- Bachelors Degree, Nursing (Required)
- Masters Degree, Nursing or Healthcare related field (Preferred)
- Experience
- 3-4 years Mental Health, Substance Use Treatment and/or acute inpatient experience (Required)
- 3-4 years Nursing Leadership (Preferred)
- Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Required)
- ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Preferred)
