Duties
* Responsible for the operation of system interface computer equipment.
* Acknowledge or defer alarms, determine the priority level of each alarm generated, determine the operational procedures for the alarm and act in accordance with procedures for the Fire Detection and Intrusion Detection System.
* Transfer caller to proper personnel as determined or dispatches a variety of emergency equipment to include police, fire, ambulance, rescue or hazardous materials units.
* Maintain continuous telephone contact with caller, when appropriate, during emergency situations.
* Responsible for caller interrogation to determine the problem and the nature of the call.
* Identify the nature of emergency, level of response required based on local protocols, and provide any additional information to the responding units.
* Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment DoD Telecommunicator I and II certification (or equivalent).
* You will be required to obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment DoD Hazmat Awareness and Operations certification.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment certification in Basic Life Support CPR.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment certification in Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN).
* You will be required to obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment certification in National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS).
* You will be required to obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment certification in National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment certification in Advance Fire Services Dispatching.
* You will be required obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment certification in Advance Police Services dispatching.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain Non-emergency Call Handling, Domestic Violence Intervention, Suicide Intervention, 9-1-1 Liability, Hazmat Preparedness for Dispatchers, and Advance Public Safety Dispatching.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain within 12 months of employment certification in Emergency Police Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch and Emergency Medical Dispatch.
* You will be required to take Continuous current certification. You will be required to take continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally.
* You will be to maintain an overall compliance score in the performance of duties of 90 percent, or better, as reviewed by the Advanced Quality Assurance (AQUA) software.
* You will be required to work up to 12-hour rotating shifts which includes days, nights, weekends and holidays.
* You will be required to work (weather essential) regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON) or installation closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
* This position requires a Secret Clearance.
* Subject to call back, on-call, and mandatory overtime as the mission requires.
* This position may require the employee to wear a uniform.
* Travel Duty may be required up to 10% of the time.
