Saint Mary Star of the Sea Catholic School, a Christ-centered Catholic school committed to excellence in education, is seeking a Part-Time Music Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Catholic liturgical music and protocols, musical expertise including musical accompaniment, and a dedication to incorporating Catholic identity throughout instruction. This position requires a dynamic, faith-filled educator who is committed to fostering a love of music within a nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities Include:

• Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction that reflects Catholic values and faith traditions.
• Prepare students to participate and lead them in school liturgies, prayer services, and other Catholic celebrations, ensuring adherence to Catholic liturgical protocols.
• Lead school choir for liturgies, school celebrations and programs and possible community events.
• Establish a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that supports the growth of all students.
• Prepare weekly lesson plans with clear objectives, procedures, and a variety of activities designed to meet diverse student needs and inspire a love for music.
• Align instruction with Diocesan curriculum guidelines regarding subject matter and time allotments.
• Collaborate with administration and other faculty members to integrate Catholic identity across the school's curriculum and activities.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Participate actively in school-wide events and contribute to the vibrant school community.
• Assist with supervision of students during recess, lunch, and other activities as assigned supporting the whole school experience and opportunity to develop rapport with students outside the classroom.
• Fulfill all record keeping requirements (i.e. report cards, progress reports)
• Adhere to agreements set forth in your signed employment agreement.
• Abide by the policies set forth in the Diocesan personnel handbook and Saint Mary Star of the Sea Catholic School Faculty/Staff Handbook.
• Maintain superior organizational, interpersonal, and management skills, and demonstrate flexibility, positivity, and a strong work ethic

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of Catholic liturgical music and worship practices required.
• Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
• Must hold a Virginia state teaching license, be working toward one, or be willing to pursue a Virginia Catholic Education Association (VCEA) alternative license.
• Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the mission of the Catholic Church.
• Superior communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Previous experience teaching music in a school setting preferred
