Candidates must have a Virginia License in Early Childhood or Elementary Education Pre K - 6. Experience teaching preschool-age children preferred. Background check, and valid Virginia Driver's license is required for employment.

Responsibilities
  • Teaches a maximum of sixteen children.
  • Meets and greets children upon arrival to and from school on a daily basis.
  • Performs spot health checks on all children upon arrival to school on a daily basis.
  • Supervises the Teacher Assistant and any other employee(s) designated by the Child Care Component; conducts annual employee performance evaluations and makes personnel recommendations as needed.
  • Manages the classroom environment by ensuring that it meets codes compliance, fire and safety standards, health standards, food handler's regulations, USDA Regulations, and state Licensure.
  • Periodically maintains an inventory of all classroom supplies and equipment; makes requests for supplies and equipment as needed to the Program Coordinator.
  • Maintains a confidential and comprehensive file on each child with accurate and detailed caseload documentation (forms include Child Data Forms, Anecdotal Notes, Family/Parent/Teacher/Staff/Agency Contact Forms, Home Visit Forms, Referral Forms, Follow-Up Forms, Contact Summary Logs, Attendance Records, and other pertinent data).
  • Develops and implements an individualized service plan on each child in areas such as fine/gross motor skills, visual perceptual skills, self-help, language, and cognitive skills based on developmental levels and assessments.
  • Conducts at least two home visits and/or conferences per child per year; documents visits/conferences in weekly lesson plans and submits copies to the Program Coordinator.
  • Submits a monthly report to the Program Coordinator detailing classroom activities, lesson themes, field trips, and home visits/conferences.
  • Maintains an accurate class roster and attendance records; updates data as required.
  • Recruits, trains, orients and supervises volunteers; monitors volunteer hours and submits monthly reports.
  • Actively involves parents in classroom activities on an ongoing basis.
  • Attends trainings, workshops and in-services as required related to the job.
  • Treats children, their parents and families with dignity and respect; maintains a positive attitude.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding families and children in all records and communications.

Benefits

Hampton Roads Community Action Program offers a variety of employee benefits, generally available on the first day of the month following your date of hire. Medical, dental and vision insurance options are available for employees and dependents. Employer pays 75% of the premium costs for health insurance. Coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month following the date of hire.

Health insurance premiums are deducted from payroll on a pre-tax basis through a Section 125 Plan. Our retirement plan includes a dollar-for-dollar matching contribution on salary reduction contributions up to 3% after one year of service. The organization also provides eleven paid holidays:
New Year’s Day, MLK Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
