This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval includes an award amount (up to $200,000) and an eligibility period (one to five years) determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine
• Degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia
• Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification
• Residency programs approved by ACGME or AOA, or other accredited residency with minimum five years of U.S. practice
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Preferred experience in Hematology/Oncology
• Physical ability to perform patient care tasks (repetitive movement, lifting, walking, standing)

• Provide direct patient care specific to the subspecialty in inpatient and ambulatory clinic settings
• Screen and resolve consultations from other disciplines in inpatient and outpatient settings
• Provide full range of therapeutic interventions specific to the subspecialty in units/programs at the Medical Center
• Order diagnostic tests and interpret findings to make appropriate treatment decisions
• Document care in the medical record in accordance with the bylaws of the Medical Center
• Provide supervisory oversight of residents, fellows, medical students, NP/PA students as appropriate
• Oversee clinical care on the inpatient service and ambulatory clinic of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants as appropriate
• Participate in team meetings and treatment planning conferences
• Provide weekend and holiday coverage of the hematology/oncology consultation service in rotation with other staff hematologists/oncologists
• Provide weekend and holiday coverage of the medical inpatient service in rotation
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies, and national regulations
• Other duties as assigned
