Position Summary:
Midnight Sun is seeking a Working Construction Foreman to support a federal contract at Joint Base Langley‑Eustis in Newport News, Virginia. This position performs hands‑on carpentry and general construction work while providing day‑to‑day oversight and coordination of small crews. The Working Foreman reports to the project Superintendent and is expected to maintain a consistent on‑site presence while interacting with government representatives and internal project teams.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Perform hands‑on carpentry and general construction tasks including, but not limited to: drywall installation and repair, painting, framing, door and hardware installation, acoustical ceiling tile (ACT), VCT flooring, carpet tile, and miscellaneous facility repairs.
- Lead and work alongside assigned crew members while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards.
- Coordinate daily work activities and priorities with the project team.
- Assist with planning and sequencing of work to meet project schedules and mission requirements.
- Monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Ensure work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and organized condition at all times.
- Ensure the proper use of tools, equipment, and materials by team members and subcontractors.
- Identify field issues, conflicts, or changes and communicate them promptly to project leadership.
- Support coordination with subcontractors, base personnel, and government representatives as needed or required.
- Enforce compliance with Midnight Sun HSEQ policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable federal safety standards.
- Immediately report any safety incidents, hazards, or HSEQ violations to the Superintendent or Safety personnel.
- Assist with material handling, deliveries, and inventory tracking as needed.
- Complete daily work reports or other required documentation.
- Support punch list and closeout activities.
- Maintain required on‑site presence while work is being performed.
- Other duties as needed to ensure project success.
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in commercial, industrial, or federal construction.
- Demonstrated experience performing hands‑on carpentry and interior finish work.
- Prior experience leading or supervising small crews preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, particularly interior finishes, and facility repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, and basic specifications.
- Working knowledge of construction tools, equipment, and materials.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks in an active construction environment.
- Effective verbal communication skills for interaction with supervisors, crew members, and government personnel.
- Ability to work independently while following established procedures and direction.
Certifications, Licenses & Other
- Valid driver's license.
- OSHA 10 required, OSHA 30 preferred.
- CPR / First Aid certification.
- Ability to obtain/maintain client site access and badging requirements.

Work Environment:
The essential duties of this position are performed in an office environment and on indoor and outdoor construction sites. Job performance may involve exposure to various weather conditions, uneven terrain, construction equipment or materials, noise, dust, and other job‑related hazards. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate safety gear is required on all job sites. Travel between job sites may be required.
