Summer Camp Counselor — Hammond, LA

The Summer Camp Counselor's primary location will be at the Hammond Recreation Center and is responsible for assisting with organization, planning, leading and teaching one or more activity classes of the camping program, including: nature study, arts and crafts, sports, games, music, special features, events or field trips. Position runs from 04/21/2025 to 04/25/2025.

• Assisting with organization, planning, leading and teaching of one or more activity classes of the camping program including: nature study, arts and crafts, sports, games, music, special features, events or field trips.
• Acting as advisor, counselor, and go-to person for the group of participants.
• Communicating, enforcing, and adhering to rules and regulations for operation, safety and welfare of participants.
• Reporting to supervisor on activities, participants, plans, programs, problems and needs; recommending action and carrying out policies and objectives of programs.
• Maintaining appropriate records and inventories, and preparing reports.

Education Required

• Successful completion of 2 years of college, preferably in Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education or related discipline; high school graduation and sufficient experience working with youth may be substituted.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to direct and actively participate in activities with 10 to 15 children aged between 5-14; must be an experienced and active swimmer; ability to communicate clearly and concisely with campers, staff, parents, and the public.
• Leadership skills to inspire confidence and enthusiasm in recreation staff and participants, and in parents.
• Ability to make mature decisions affecting the safety and well-being of children; active participation in varied sports/recreation activities (e.g., bowling, skating, field games).
