Job Purpose and Summary

Within Vera's Retail locations we bring the promise to life daily. Staff Pharmacists act as role models for the pharmacy team, demonstrating genuine care and setting an elevated bar for service. You’ll partner with Pharmacy Managers to lead, direct, and operate all aspects of the pharmacy while maintaining a culture of excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Living our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
  • Taking direction from the Pharmacy Manager and overseeing the pharmacy as proxy during bench shifts without overlap, coaching team performance, and reporting to the manager.
  • Assuming Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Supporting safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following workflow procedures and using safety guardrails at every workstation.
  • Contributing to positive patientfake experiences by showing empathy, coaching the team, collaborating with the patient’s healthcare team, and resolving insurance or medication issues.
  • Proactively offering and delivering immunizations while training Pharmacy Technicians to immunize.
  • Managing pharmacy inventory with a focus on protecting cold‑chain products.
  • Partnering with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations and escalating issues to Rx DL or the manager as needed.
  • Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs while supporting a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
  • Maintaining clinical and technical competence through required trainings and CMEs, seeking opportunities to expand knowledge.
  • Providing pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as COVID/Flu testing and prescription services (e.g., hormonal contraception) where permitted.
  • Understanding and complying with all relevant laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, including controlled‑substance dispensing and patient privacy.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the Store is located.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and Focus:

    • Ability to pivot quickly from one task to another.
    • Confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
  • Customer Service and Team Orientation:
    • Actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner.
    • Notice and understand patients’ reactions and respond appropriately.

    Skills:
    • Use and understand verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues.
    • Practice active listening and ask clarifying questions.
  • Mathematical Reasoning:
    • Use math to solve dispensing problems such as determining total tablets or full bottles required.
  • Issue Resolution:
    • Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Mobile and upright for extended periods.
    • Lift, scan, and bag items up to 20 lbs. with occasional exertion of up to 20 lbs. of force.
    • Reach overhead, stretch, and use arm & hand precision.
    • Perform fine‑motor skills such as typing and pinching.
    • Communicate verbally when detailed instructions must be conveyed accurately.
  • Other duties as directed by the supervisor or manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer‑service setting.
  • Ability to work in locations across the market as business needs require.
