Overview
Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (L.P.T.A.) at School City of Hammond. The PTA works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to support students with physical disabilities and mobility challenges in accessing their educational environment.
Education and Experience- Associate’s degree from a CAPTE-approved Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current Indiana state license as a Physical Therapist Assistant, issued by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents preferred; experience in educational or pediatric settings is highly desirable.
- CPR and First Aid certification recommended.
- Implement individualized therapy programs as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Assist students in accessing the school environment, including classrooms, playgrounds, cafeterias, and transportation.
- Document student performance, progress, and responses to treatment; communicate observations to the supervising PT.
- Prepare and maintain therapy equipment, adaptive devices, and materials for student use.
- Collaborate with teachers, aides, related service providers, and families to integrate therapy strategies into daily routines.
- Assist with data collection for progress monitoring and IEP documentation.
- Support safe positioning, transfers, and mobility throughout the school day.
- Follow all state practice regulations, district policies, and ethical guidelines for PTAs.
- Participate in professional development and training as required.
- Any additional duties as assigned by the director or building principal.
- Knowledge of pediatric motor development, school-based physical therapy practices, and common childhood disabilities.
- Familiarity with IEPs and the role of physical therapy in special education services.
- Ability to follow detailed treatment plans, collect accurate data, and communicate effectively with the supervising PT.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with students, families, and multidisciplinary school teams.
- Skills in safe handling, positioning, and use of adaptive/assistive equipment.
- Organizational skills to manage schedules across multiple school sites if required.
- Flexibility, patience, and creativity in supporting students in diverse learning environments.
185 Days. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications.
