Overview
The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a 40 hours per week, 10 months per year, Administrative Assistant to the Elementary Principals at State Road Elementary School (0.50 FTE) and Hamilton/SOTA I Elementary School (0.50 FTE). Projected start date:

This is a shared position rotating between the buildings every other day at each school (one day at State Road, one day at Hamilton/SOTA I, etc.). This position also includes the administrative assistant duties for Elementary Math.
Accountability ObjectivesTo ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school office so that the maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized.
Essential Functions- Perform office routines and practices associated with a busy, complex, productive, and smoothly run office, in maintaining all necessary confidentialities.
- Greet and assist visitors, students, and staff in need of information.
- Receive and route all incoming calls and mail as needed.
- Maintain student cumulative files.
- Maintain a daily attendance sign in for staff and substitutes and monitor unfilled absences.
- Monitor door security cameras and additional cameras throughout the school building, using caution and judgement when allowing visitors to enter the building.
- Implement school safety protocols and procedures, including entrance security system and lock down alerts.
- Facilitate and maintain staff absences in Absence Management in communication with the Payroll Department. Assist in preparing all payroll reports as needed.
- Serve as backup to health assistant (12-month position). Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with illness and injury care and administering medications according to school policy (e.g., injectables).
- Maintain and adhere to custody and court documentation for students.
- Support the building staff with student behavioral plans, interventions, and implementation.
- Perform computer tasks including but not limited to Microsoft Office, electronic communication, Google Drive, and district databases. Schedule service for office equipment as needed.
- Understanding of childhood and adolescent development (social, emotional and verbal).
- Understanding of internalizing barriers to learning for students such as trauma and mental health issues.
- Understanding of a school system structure and school-based programs (PBIS, expectations, etc).
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with coworkers.
- Ability to create a positive and welcoming environment for families, community members, and the general public.
- Ability to deal with and/or deescalate stressful situations effectively.
- Ability to handle prolonged computer usage.
- High level of organization skills and effective time management skills.
- Ability to handle and successfully complete several tasks at one time in a student-centered office environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to properly handle confidential matters and emergency situations.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal direction.
