Job Goal

The dance coach/advisor is the leader and mentor for competitive dancers. The advisor will design/choreograph unique dance sequences and teach these routines to team members (students). The advisor will ensure that dance routines are polished and perfected for public performances.

Director of Fine Arts

Essential Functions
  • Serve as a role model for students
  • Encourage and inspire all students to grow, develop and be successful
  • Train and teach students the concept of professional standards for performance
  • Provide learning experiences for students at levels of learning
  • Ensure that students are learning and developing in their ability to dance
  • Establish an effective rehearsal schedule and communicate the schedule with parents and students
  • Establish procedures that address all safety concerns
  • Train team members in the areas of safety and care for each other
  • Explicitly teach and ensure professional standards for student performances
  • Embrace and teach the philosophy of working together and contributing to a purpose larger than oneself
  • Create a program that allows self-expression through the art of dance
  • Inspire student team members to aspire for excellence
  • Lead student dancers to develop artistry by honing their technique and skills
  • Lay the foundation for life‑long skills of commitment, resilience, and responsibility
  • Promote and cultivate a forward‑thinking, positive mindset
  • Carefully monitor team progress to ensure individual and team success
  • Be attuned to the mental health of their students and know when they need to push a student to attain greater learning or to back off when a student is resistant
  • Teach warm‑up and cool‑down exercises and routines that are in line with current teaching practices
  • Choreograph creative routines that build and showcase student talent and student learning
  • Showcase the dance team (perform) at Football Games, Basketball Games and Community Events
  • Use positive and inclusive language when addressing their team
  • Understand and know the difference between using constructive criticism rather than giving unhelpful opinions and judgments
  • Continually update their own skills by taking classes and attending courses that enhance their teaching and benefit their students and the overall performance
  • Communicate well with their community of clients: students, parents, band directors, athletic director
Qualifications Profile
  • Strong background in the performing arts, including dance experience in hip hop, jazz, Broadway, modern dance, and other appropriate forms.
  • High-quality oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Open to new ideas and the ability to adapt to change
  • Awareness of, and appreciation for, individual uniqueness and diversity
  • Awareness of safety concerns and risk management
  • Pupil Activity Permit, CPR, and First Aid certifications required
  • Good understanding of dance pedagogy and movement anatomy
  • Knowledgeable about stage production and costume design
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to drive an automobile.
  • Ability to travel freely throughout the building
  • Ability to lift, carry or move equipment or supplies weighing over one hundred pounds
  • Ability to manage balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, or standing
  • Ability to communicate effectively using language and writing skills
