General Description

The Assistant Teacher will assist in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children six weeks to three years old, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy, their understanding and use of language, their understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, their appreciation of books, their problem solving abilities, their fine and gross motor skills and their approaches to learning;
To maintain the health and safety of children. To provide active supervision of children at all times. The Assistant Teacher will assist in establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment; support the social and emotional development of children; encourage the involvement of the families of the children in the Early Head Start program and support the development of relationships between children and their families.

Responsibilities

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

  • Assist in planning and implementing learning experiences for six weeks to three years old.
  • Support development in literacy, language, vocabulary, problem solving, and motor skills.
  • Maintain health and safety and provide active supervision.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment.
  • Support social and emotional development and involve families in the Early Head Start program.
Terms of Employment

Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
