Foreign Language Teacher – Spanish (Grades 9-12) – ACIT

Atlantic County Institute of Technology, Atlantic County, NJ
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher will develop students’ knowledge, skills and abilities in comprehension, speaking, reading and writing a language other than English, and foster an appreciation of the cultures of Spanish‑speaking countries.
Essential Functions- Develop and administer a foreign‑language curriculum aligned with the district’s goals and objectives.
- Promote a safe, engaging classroom environment that accommodates individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Plan and deliver lessons that build sequential learning experiences, challenge students, and optimize instructional time.
- Teach content in a language other than English, including comprehension, grammar, syntax, composition, vocabulary, colloquialisms, and literary translation.
- Cultivate student understanding of the cultures and practices of Spanish‑speaking countries.
- Prepare materials for literary publications, contests, and other student‑related events.
- Assess student progress continually and adjust instruction for individual classrooms, including students with special needs; conduct small‑group or individual instruction as needed.
- Continuously acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, or research.
- Maintain accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting in accordance with district procedures and applicable law.
- Encourage parental involvement and communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Uphold student conduct standards consistent with school and district policies.
- Collaborate with other staff, participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select, requisition, and inventory instructional materials and supplies.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of current teaching methods and differentiated instructional strategies.
- Knowledge of Spanish in terms of grammar, vocabulary, literature, and cultural context.
- Knowledge of data systems, data analysis, and action plan development.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Proficiency with computer networking and relevant software applications.
- Excellent organizational and coordination skills.
- Strong communication skills with students and parents.
- Commitment to self‑evaluation for professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
NJ State certification as a foreign‑language teacher in the language taught (Spanish Cert #1550).
Education- Bachelor’s degree in an accredited education discipline.
- Master’s degree in a related area preferred.
Previous foreign‑language teaching experience is a plus.
Compensation & BenefitsSalary: $63,141 – $66,543, based on the ACVTEA Salary Guide and educational level.
