Position: 236108 Energy & Environment Officer
Location: Bothwell

The Role

  • To understand, interpret and validate utility invoices from suppliers, totalling over £5 million per annum.
  • To support the monitoring, management and control of all utilities including gas, oil, LPG, electricity, water, wastewater and trade effluent across NHS Lanarkshire sites to avoid waste and minimise costs.
  • To provide technical advice and support for energy efficiency / carbon reduction projects to ensure that the best service is provided within budget and on time for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.
  • To provide professional support and leadership on the planning and implementation of strategies, policies and guidance to improve NHS Lanarkshire’s performance on National and NHS objectives on climate change adaptation, sustainable development, biodiversity and energy / environmental management.
  • To be responsible for setting annual savings targets with supporting plans and monitoring performance against these in respect of energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption.
  • To support the Head of Sustainability on ensuring compliance with the CRC – Energy Efficiency Scheme working with SEPA, Environment Agency and others to ensure compliance.
  • To provide support for National and local behaviour change and staff awareness programmes that will encourage the co‑operation and participation of staff in reducing energy consumption and waste in areas under their control.

What

we’ll need you to bring
  • Professional management and / or engineering /environmental related qualification to Degree level or equivalent plus demonstrable experience, preferably in the healthcare environment.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge of EU, UK and Scottish Government policies, legislation and regulation in sustainable development, climate change adaptation and environmental management.
  • Good interpersonal, problem‑solving and presentation skills along with the ability to manage change using excellent supervisory / planning / organisational skills, to ensure effective, efficient improvement in the provision of services.
  • The post holder shall be required to demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of Statutory Standards.
  • Experience of Contract Management & Energy Auditing.
  • Valid full driving licence
  • Fair, consistent and flexible approach in dealing with others.
  • Self‑motivated team player with drive, enthusiasm and commitment.

  • Ability to analyse and interpret data and information and to use this to formulate plans.
