The Role

The postholder has responsibility for a portfolio of health improvement programmes across one locality or topic area with the overall aim of improving health and reducing health inequalities in line with the Local Delivery Plan, Single Outcome Agreement, and other locally and nationally identified health priorities.

The post holder has responsibility for the development and delivery of this portfolio of programmes under the direction of the Unit Health Improvement Team Leader/Senior Health Promotion Officer. The post holder is required to provide health improvement support, training and advice to colleagues and partners, providing programme management and where appropriate, staff management.

The postholder is responsible for establishing and sustaining relationships internally within NHS Lanarkshire and with key external partners and stakeholders to promote health improvement and address inequalities in health.

Working within the NHS and with partner agencies the post holder will primarily lead the development and implementation of Health Improvement programmes in line with NHS Lanarkshire strategies and local health needs.

What

we'll need you to bring
  • The post holder must be qualified to degree standard.
  • The post holder should have or be working towards a postgraduate qualification or have the equivalent knowledge and experience that demonstrates an understanding of health improvement/ health promotion/ public health at postgraduate level
  • Plus experience of Health Promotion / Public Health / Health Improvement
  • Partnership working and negotiation skills
  • Contribution to policy implementation
  • Budget monitoring
  • Proven track record in the delivery of Health Improvement/Public Health
  • Projects
  • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of appropriate public health competencies  February 2010, or be on or working towards the UKPHR Practitioner Registration.
  • Local and National Policies and Strategies that affect the health of the population
It would be great if you also have
  • Degree in a health or related discipline
  • Experience of working in a health or health related discipline.
  • Knowledge of one relevant specific topic, or skill based area, e.g. young people, mental health, nursing or community development.
  • An understanding of the health improvement policy agenda.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, IT skills.
  • Organisational and time management skills.
  • Negotiation and problem solving skills.
  • Research and evaluation skills.
  • Training, facilitation and group work skills.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Partnership working skills and experience.
  • Full, valid UK/EU/EEA drivers licence

Contract type
  • Fixed Term or Secondment for 23 months
  • Full time
  • 37 hours

Please note this is a fixed term post for 23 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Health Improvement within Beckford St.
