PositionPosition purpose To assist Residents with daily routines, some domestic duties and monitoring of client activities with sensitivity to goals, purpose and mission of The Salvation Army. This role is for Hamilton, Bermuda.
Accountabilities- The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
- Ensure the safety and protection of all residents/clients/guests within Harbour Light.
- Interact with support staff, administration, and the counseling team.
- Recognize and use building safety alarms, panic buttons, and door security as required.
- Make and document regular room checks, client counts, and general monitoring.
- Oversee Harbour Light building operations.
- Ensure Residents attend internal and external meetings.
- Escort and supervise Residents for external activities, events, functions, etc.
- Support Residents/facility throughout entirety of shift.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
The description of a Residential Care Worker was adopted to focus on the role and expectations in working with residents. The Residential Care Worker is part of the "Caring Team" and aims to support residents in recovery with guidance rather than punitive measures.
Leadership and Financial- Managerial/Technical Leadership - Reports directly to:
Immediate Supervisor. Direct reports: N/A. May show others how to perform certain procedures. - Financial and Materials Management - Involves small program purchases under supervisor authority; maintains logs for funds received; no input into the annual budget.
- This is a casual position with work primarily in a residential setting.
- May involve isolation, dealing with angry or abusive individuals, travel locally, and shifts affecting lifestyle.
- Exposure to bodily fluids, drugs and alcohol; physical exertion up to lifting 30 pounds; continuous monitoring and interaction with clients.
- Must be in good health and capable of performing duties in the working environment.
- Ability to balance enforcing rules with compassion; strong interpersonal skills; competence in English; appropriate hygiene and dress.
- Adherence to the Salvation Army mission and confidentiality requirements.
- Exposure to hazards including physical attacks, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, sharp objects, and potentially dangerous situations.
- Universal precautions, immunizations, first aid/CPR certification, background check, and non-violent crisis intervention training.
12-hour shifts with emergency/crisis management as needed.
Shifts:
7:00 pm – 7:00 am and/or 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, including public holidays.
- High-school graduate with administrative, organizational, written and verbal communication skills. An alternative level of education/experience may be considered.
- Must possess (or be working towards) an intermediate driver’s license with Community Service Certification.
- CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.
- Experience in the social-related field is an asset. WHMIS training. Ability to support the mission of The Salvation Army in Canada.
- OH&S compliance and adherence to health and safety policies.
- Minimum of one year of related experience, including frontline work in a social service setting.
- Strong integrity, confidentiality and professional ethics; good verbal and non-verbal communication.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, de-escalate, and work with diverse populations.
- Patience, teamwork, initiative, adaptability, and problem-solving skills; computer literacy.
The target hiring range for this position is BD $17.13 to BD $20.08 with a maximum of BD $24.10. Placement in the salary range will be based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills and qualifications.
