Job OverviewWe have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Finance Team as an Accountant. This post is based in the Strategy Team where you will provide financial support to services within Education Resources. You will be responsible to the Finance Adviser for the effective delivery of the finance provision in accordance with the Council's statutory responsibilities, policies and procedures.
You will be required to contribute towards providing quality advice and support to Council departments to allow them to deliver services to the communities of South Lanarkshire.
- Forecast, set budgets for the year and monitor performance against these budgets.
- Assist in year end accounts preparation.
- Prepare financial returns and committee reports.
- Perform general financial stewardship of the Council's financial resources.
- Challenge, support and improve existing business practices, reporting on effectiveness, reliability and/or value for money.
- Highlight risks and make recommendations for management.
- Experience with in a financial environment, ideally public sector.
- Evidence of technical job knowledge and expertise.
- Knowledge of the finance function within a specialist area and ability to cross‑work within an organisation.
- Compliance with professional codes of practice.
- Experience in project management with associated governance responsibilities.
- Ability to prepare and scrutinise financial reports, budgets, accounts and performance indicators.
- Must hold a Professional Accountancy qualification and membership of an appropriate professional body or demonstrate extensive experience in a financial management role.
