SP Energy Networks (SPEN) will be delivering £5.4b of investment in the GB electricity grid over the next 5 years. As part of this, SPT Strategic Projects will be delivering a ~£3b portfolio of new overhead lines, new and upgraded substations, including design, engineering, construction and electrical works in collaboration with an EPC supply chain.
The Project Controls Manager (PCM) will be responsible to implement the Strategic Portfolio's defined reporting, planning, cost control, risk, baseline and change ways of working across a subset of the Strategic Portfolio, a Programme of projects valued at ~£1b.
The position may require travel to project sites in Scotland. The individual should be prepared to manage teams working at different project locations.
What you ll be doing- Embed defined Project Control standards, processes, tools and quality requirements across a Programme of strategic projects in collaboration with the Portfolio's PMO team
- Enable project delivery discipline by monitoring and controlling cost, schedule, risk and change by working closely with Development / Delivery Managers, Project Managers, project delivery teams and other key stakeholders
- Coordinate the integration of project schedules, budgets, risks and PBI reporting across all projects in the Programme to provide a consolidated Programme level view.
- Support project controls resources implement the portfolio's standardised WBS / CBS structures across the projects and systems
- Provide project controls teams with guidance on the application of effective project controls techniques (e.g. cost and schedule variance, integrated master schedules, earned value metrics, critical path analysis, etc.)
- Responsible for management reporting across the Programme, as well as feeding inputs to the annual regulatory reporting process.
- Generate Programme-level reporting and actionable insights as per the monthly reporting calendar in collaboration with project controls teams
- Facilitate alignment between project teams and portfolio-level controls requirements to ensure consistency in data, processes, and deliverables
- Attend regular Governance meetings as required
- Support full adoption of digital tools (e.g., Power BI, CEMAR, P6 Primavera, etc.) in collaboration with the Portfolio's PMO team internally and externally with the supply chain
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Strategic Portfolio by exploring innovative ways of working, championing Lessons Learned and introduction of best-in class industry practices
- Close collaboration and sharing of commons standards, processes and way of working with the other PMO areas in SPT (Core & HVDC).
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in large-scale, complex infrastructure or energy EPC projects, with UK transmission/distribution upgrade project experience advantageous but not essential.
