Job Description

American Iron & Metal (AIM) is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Groundsman to join our Rail Team on a rotational shift. In this role, you are responsible for providing safe and efficient rail car switching services working in a fast‑paced environment. The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic and great communication skills.

What you're responsible for
  • Ensuring safe operation of the locomotive and train movements
  • Ability to carry out specific instructions detailing a train’s route and specific movements
  • Perform switching of railcars, including coupling and uncoupling cars, and be able to lift out coupling devices
  • Signaling crew members for movement of the engine or train using a radio to indicate when to start, stop, back‑up, set or release air brakes
  • Having the ability to move on and off moving or stationary equipment while the train is in motion during yard switching
  • Riding moving rail cars using the ladder on the side for extended periods of time
Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a groundsman OR working within a rail team is preferred
  • Excellent teamwork skills and clear communication
  • Physically fit including the ability to pull oneself up and down from a railcar continuously
  • Ability to lift (50 lbs +) and twist air hoses, secure rail car brakes, derail, and switches
  • Proactive with the ability to take action/assess a situation with team safety paramount
  • Comfortable with physically demanding work in all‑weather conditions
Additional Information
  • Hourly pay starts at CAD 21.50 / hr, plus overtime after 44 hours
