There is very little as important as how we communicate with the student body. From the administrative or department level, the messages we send need to be clear, consistent and professional.
The Marketing and Communications department coordinates all marketing and advertising campaigns with the MSU, and develops long-term marketing strategies for the MSU. The department plays a significant role in the creation and consolidation of the MSU’s public image and will work to increase communication between the MSU, the students of McMaster University, and the external community.
General Scope of DutiesReporting to the Marketing & Communications Director, the Social Media Coordinator will be focused on the execution and delivery of marketing content for the McMaster Students Union. The Social Media Coordinator will oversee and coordinate all communication on behalf of the MSU through social media content in order to facilitate engaging communication between the MSU and the student body.
Recognizing that the functions of the Social Media Coordinator encompass a wide variety of roles and responsibilities, the position may be modified slightly at the discretion of the MCD. It is important to note that not all functions and duties are contained within this definition, and the position itself should be ever changing and adaptive to best meet the needs of the MSU.

Training and Experience- Experience with social media platforms.
- Additional training will be provided.
Skills and Abilities
- Communication skills required in order to interact with numerous students and members of the McMaster community.
- Be able to remain professional when communicating, as these will be the views of the McMaster Students Union.
- Must have a good working knowledge of both the MSU and McMaster community.
- Must have experience with social media platforms, and be able to use these mediums effectively.
- Organizational skills are required, as completion of activities requires the completion of many tasks simultaneously. Responsible for the promotion of a positive and proper image of the McMaster Students Union.
- MSU office, or other location with internet access.
- Personal computer or phone that has access to Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
