Proudly serving a community of approximately 50,000 students in the City of Hamilton and surrounding area, HWDSB operates across 84 elementary schools, 13 secondary schools and 1 Adult Learning Centre, in addition to providing support and service to approximately 8,800 staff members.

About HWDSB French ProgramsHWDSB is an anglophone school board that offers two French programs. Our Core French program begins in Grade 4, with approximately 40 minutes of instruction per class per day. Our French Immersion program begins in Grade 1, with students receiving a minimum of approximately 85 per cent of instruction in French. In French Immersion, Core English instruction begins in Grade 2.
Our FI program continues into secondary at 2 sites, we offer a wide range of courses including Math, Science, Geography and History. The FI program at HWDSB is a growing program with sites across the district.
Candidates must be certified by the Ontario College of Teachers (in good standing). New graduates pending OCT certification are welcome to apply! French as a Second Language, Part 1 or equivalent and native‑like French fluency are required, along with strong English skills.
