Estimator - About the Role

We are continually growing and are currently seeking an Estimator to join our Estimating Department. This is a full-time position based out of our Hamilton office.

Estimation is a skill that drives opportunity and business growth. Our team works collaboratively at the forefront of every project to deliver winning results. The ideal candidate will be responsible to complete the full bid process from concept to submission. The role requires thorough, detailed take offs (audit level). The candidate must be able to shift with ever-changing priorities in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining pride of ownership/accountability in their work and with a competitive, winning spirit.

Strong relationship-building skills are essential to this role as we work with colleagues, owners, consultants, and Subcontractors to put forth our best quality and value.

Our projects are complex and multi-faceted. As an Estimator with IMC, you will work closely with our business development and project management teams to ensure a complete transfer of project-specific knowledge from one department to the next. As such, consistently accurate, detailed notes throughout the duration of the project are of utmost importance.

Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Vice President, provide support to and/or lead multiple projects at various stages of completion.
  • Perform initial Opportunity and Risk Assessments and make recommendations to the Vice President.
  • Perform preconstruction activities including preparation of Schedules, Class D through A Estimates, Cost Plans, Risk Analysis, and Value Engineering Analysis for projects $250K to $50M
  • Prepare detailed estimates including general requirements, quantity takeoffs, productivity factors, etc., and provide fee recommendations to the Vice President.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal project team and external project stakeholders.
  • Develop and solicit Subcontractor quotations and Invitations to Bid, issue Letters of Intent, and support subcontract negotiation.
  • Attend, arrange, and lead site visits.
  • Take part in and lead closing day activities.
  • Develop and maintain Subcontractor, Unit Rate, and other Estimating databases.
  • Assist in project planning, scheduling, and contract negotiation.
  • Be a mentor to Junior team members.
  • Support other departments within the company structure as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Minimum of 10+ years estimating experience in General Contracting or Construction Management within the ICI sector.
  • Completion of a degree or diploma in a construction or engineering related field required (or combination of alternate education and demonstrated industry-related experience).
  • Gold Seal Certification, CEC, or PQS Designation (or working towards) an asset.
