We are continuing to expand our industry-leading traffic engineering and transportation planning practice known for its technical process, innovative solutions, and dedication to client satisfaction. We are seeking a Project Engineer in our Traffic and Transportation group to help drive the next generation of traffic and transportation solutions throughout Connecticut. Our staff is exposed to a diverse experience in a broad range of regional, state and municipal planning and engineering projects.

The successful candidate will support traffic engineering design and planning projects throughout Connecticut for AKRF’s Traffic and Transportation group located in Hamden, CT. Qualified candidates will be able to prepare analysis and design documents including project deliverables, supervise work prepared by junior staff, and participate in client meetings and presentation of project findings. Job Responsibilities:

• Work within a team of professionals to develop traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for various transportation projects.
• Conduct comprehensive traffic impact studies to address multi-modal transportation issues, including those related to vehicular traffic, public transportation, pedestrian flow, street user safety, and parking.
• Perform traffic modeling to simulate and analyze traffic flow and patterns, helping to predict and solve potential issues.
• Develop, analyze, and evaluate traffic improvement plans to enhance roadway safety and efficiency.
• Design traffic signals including Intelligent Transportation Systems, which can include Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP), Transit Signal Priority (TSP) and Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS).
• Design roadways and intersections, ensuring they meet current safety standards and accommodate traffic flow effectively.
• Prepare and review technical memoranda and reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity in presenting findings and recommendations.
• Actively participate in meetings to share ideas with the team, clients, consultant partners, and other stakeholders
• Prepare and deliver analysis findings, concerns, and recommendations clearly and concisely to clients and stakeholders.
• Manage small to mid-size projects or serve as a task leader, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the client's satisfaction.
• Strong desire to learn and share knowledge with other team members to develop solutions.

Essential Requirements:

• 3-5 years experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• E.I.T. Certification or Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain such
• Experience with Connecticut, and/or local municipalities and agencies preferred
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Skilled in the preparation of traffic impact analyses
• Working knowledge of the MUTCD, AASHTO, PROWAG, HCM, ITE Trip Generation
• Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Open Roads Designer, and/or Microstation. Knowledge of CTDOT Digital Design Environment is a plus.
• Working knowledge of traffic engineering and planning software, such as Synchro/Sim Traffic, HCS, VISSIM, and Auto Turn.
• Familiarity with Traffic Signal Design. Knowledge of Connecticut DOT guidelines and standards is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and Power Point
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Compensation

Compensation will range from $85k to $100K and commensurate with experience.
