Overview
Mechanic I
Job Summary: Provide support by diagnosing, repairing of light, medium and heavy equipment.
Reports to: Fleet Manager
Responsibilities- Diagnose issues and work on various types of construction equipment and vehicles, including hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, gas and diesel engines.
- Cleaning, lubricating and conducting routine services on heavy-duty and light-duty vehicles and equipment
- Basic knowledge of fabrication and different types of welding
- Test drive vehicles after repairs are complete to ensure mechanical soundness
- Maintain work logs, repairs and maintenance records
- Make recommendations to Fleet Manager for more detailed work
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- 5 years of experience as a mechanic
- Knowledge of systems within heavy, medium, and light duty trucks, tractors, trailers and construction equipment
- Must pass a Motor Vehicle Record check with minimal infractions
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and nights as needed
- Willing and able to pass a physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings
- Excellent communications skills, computer skills, and written skill
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and nights as needed
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of equipment mechanics training course desired.
- Majority of work is performed in mechanic shop exposed to outside temperatures
- Work includes heavy lifting (typically up to 50-100 lbs.)
- Exposure to noise, fumes, vibrations and heights
- Exposure to prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, crawling and climbing
