JOB TITLE: Public Cloud Engineering Lead

LOCATION(S): Halifax or Leeds

HOURS:
Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our locations noted above.

We’re modernising with cloud – creating a platform that’s quick, secure and resilient for customers, and easy, modern and sustainable for developers. Our core technology focus is on Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.

We're looking for Infrastructure Specialist Leads to join our Services Lab. You’ll have a unique opportunity to be part of an ambitious team with the purpose of driving our tech modernisation agenda and enable us to become the biggest Fintech in the UK. You’ll be responsible for leading a team of engineers to design, build and operate secure, automated cloud platform capabilities that enable product teams to deliver API-first services at pace and with confidence.

You’ll balance deep technical work with coaching others to raise the bar on reliability, security and simplicity.

• A visionary leader who works with the Product Owner,Architectsand teams to build an inspiring services engineering strategy that provides inspiration and purpose.
• Responsible for creating amazing capabilities for our customers using technicalexpertiseto deliver change through modern engineering tools and methods and by inspiring teams to embrace agile principles, encourage innovation, and foster a “Fail Fast, Learn Faster” approach.
• An inspiring communicator who can work with all levels of the organisation, energising teams and ensuring communication is flowing affectively.
• Work with the team and the wider Engineering Community to ensure that platforms and software are built consistently with relevant patterns and practices, ensuring a collaborative environment to share ideas and work through complex problems.
• Design, build and operate platform capabilities using Infrastructure-as-Code and modern CI/CD.
• Partner with architecture and feature teams to evolve our cloud roadmap and platform products.
• Embed a secure-by-design mindset and controls from design to runtime, safeguarding colleagues and customers.
• Define and operate against SLOs/SLIs; implement actionable observability, performance tuning and automation to reduce toil.
• Enable API-first delivery with reusable patterns and golden paths for API producers/consumers; contribute to documentation and enablement.
• Understand agile and the relationship between agile definitions and automated delivery

• Proven experience delivering large-scale systems with performance, availability and fault-tolerance; experience setting SLOs/SLIs.
• Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform (minimum) and one or more modern CI/CD systems (Azure Dev Ops, Git Hub Actions, Harness, Jenkins or Spinnaker).
• Containers & orchestration (Kubernetes) and service-mesh patterns (e.g., Istio).
• API design and security (REST/OpenAPI, auth
  
  N/Z, mTLS and certificate lifecycle).
• Scripting in Bash, Power Shell or Python.

• Azure: ARM/Bicep/Template Spec, AKS, Application Gateway, API Management (policies/C# basics), Azure Storage.
• GCP: GKE, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud Armor, Istio, Cloud Monitoring/Stackdriver, Jenkins, Apigee, compute/ VMs.

• Harness experience in CI/CD, Hashi Corp Vault, Dynatrace, Docker/buildah, NodeJS for API tooling, relevant Azure or GCP certifications.

• Delivered hybrid-cloud, automated platforms in agile teams; collaborate across architecture and business stakeholders.
• Technology-agnostic mindset; choose the best tool for the job and stay curious.
