Emergency Practitioner

Closing date: 18 January 2026

We are a busy Emergency Department based on two sites – Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary – seeing approximately 140,000 patients per annum. Both departments have a separate minor injury stream which runs from 08.00 to 23.00 hours daily. The minor injury service is practitioner‑led with senior clinician input on site where required.

Main duties of the job

Part Time

We seek an individual who has completed their minor injury training and is keen to further develop their minor injury skills and experience. We are also accepting applications from senior EPs who can start at band 7, subject to experience. Allied health professionals who have completed the minor injuries accredited course are welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities
  • See, treat and discharge minor injury patients attending the Emergency Department.
  • Maintain flexibility with shift patterns.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and exercise good clinical judgement.
  • Willingness to develop clinically and academically as required.
Person Specification Qualifications & Training
  • First‑level registration with the NMC.
  • Experience teaching patients and staff, formally or informally.
  • Completion of the minor injury accredited course.
Knowledge, Experience & Expertise
  • Substantial post‑registration experience and in‑depth knowledge related to the service.
  • Proven record of clinical leadership.
  • Experience in mental health assessment.
  • Patient wound closure and cleaning.
  • X‑ray interpretation.
  • Plastering experience.
Communication and Relationships
  • Ability to work in a complex, changing and challenging environment.
  • Motivation to develop and embed a new role.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations safely and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Salary

£38,682 to £54,710 per annum, pro rata.

Contract

Fixed term, 12 months.
