Cogent Staffing are seeking a skilled Buyer to join our clients purchasing team, reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of manufacturing processes by effectively managing supplier relationships and procurement activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the MRPS to maintain production schedules, avoiding supply interruptions.
- Negotiate the best acquisition costs for components and materials while ensuring quality and delivery performance.
- Identify and recommend suppliers for both existing and new components to achieve cost reduction targets.
- Coordinate the processing and progress of quotations with recommendations.
- Make informed decisions using professional judgement within the parameters set by the Purchasing Manager.
- Hold regular review meetings with key suppliers to address delivery and quality performance.
- Monitor trends in critical commodity markets to aid in strategic supplier negotiations.
- Draft purchasing contracts for new and existing suppliers.
- Authorize supplier invoices and manage the order book effectively.
- Develop consignment stock, Kanban, and direct line feed supply agreements.
- Administer the Purchase Order system efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Achieve cost-reduction targets through tendering and negotiation.
- Assist with annual stock takes and resolve any variances.
- Travel to other company sites as required.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Buyer in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Proficient in MRP/ERP systems with day-to-day experience.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data effectively.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in managing documentation.
- Knowledge of export documentation and procedures is a plus.
- IT literate, especially in MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams).
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) is desired but not essential.
