The Ready for Rec Camp provides an opportunity for children and youth who require additional support to be in a camp environmental with less children and more staff.

The Ready for Rec Specialized Inclusion Support person typically works 1:1 with children and youth. The position is responsible for implementing behaviour management strategies, implementing strategies from intake, develop program modifications, providing personal care, promoting fundamental movement skills, creative thinking and recreation experience. This position will implement interesting and creative program opportunities and offer supports for persons with disabilities in programs (i.e. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, administering medication, etc.)

This position will work geographically and must be willing to travel between recreation centers throughout the summer.

Positions are available in the Ready for Rec Youth Camp (youth age:13-18) and Ready for Rec Children camp (5-12)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support campers that may require extra support and an individualized behavioural plan to support inclusive participation.
  • Provide personal care to participants when needed
  • Maintain appropriate documentation in relation to providing inclusion support.
  • Assist Inclusion Coordinator in developing individual inclusion plans based on specific needs, abilities and interests all with staff.
  • Ensure that all strategies, which are implemented, are compatible with all HRM programs/polices.
  • Provides therapeutic intervention in crisis situation using Crisis Intervention or Therapeutic Intervention and or NVCI strategies.
  • Assists to ensure a safe and secure program environment for all.
  • Supports Inclusion Coordinator to provide for effective first response during incidents/emergencies; activates secondary, tertiary emergency response in a timely manner.
  • This position will work geographically and must be willing to travel between recreation centres throughout the summer.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience:

  • Preferred qualification of minimum enrolment in an undergraduate university degree or college diploma in relevant field of study such as Therapeutic Recreation, Child and Youth Studies, Psychology, Education, Social Work, School of Communication Disorders, Kinesiology- and/or equivalent level of training working with children and youth with a disability.
  • Minimum 1-2 years related experience working with individuals of various ages and abilities.
  • Previous training and/or experience in implementing behavior management strategies considered an asset.
  • Previous training and/or experience providing personal care considered an asset.
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
  • Valid certification in CPR/First Aid (CSA Basic) and NVCI (can be provided by the employer).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

    Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

    Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

    HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm. Hours may vary depending on the location.

    SALARY: Non Union; $23.75 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

    WORK LOCATION: Halifax Peninsula, Spryfield, Dartmouth, Sackville
