Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent full-time position of Fleet Tradesperson - Welder. The position will perform welding and fabrication on HRM owned heavy equipment, trucks, snowplows, etc., Must be self-motivated, dependable and be able to work well with others in a team environment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Welding in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions

Receive and complete work orders and assigned tasks through use of a computerized work order fleet management system.

Weld and/or cut with oxygen/acetylene

Take measurements, lay out work and calculate material requirements

Reading and interpreting of blue prints or plans pertaining to burning, fitting and welding

Various welding cutting and fitting repairs or construction to HRM equipment vehicles and plow attachments

Ability to design, fabricate and fit metal work

Maintains accurate records of work performed

Familiar with proper shop practices related to a welding shop

Ensures work completed meets specifications

Familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and their application

Participate with supporting the apprenticeship program as a journeyperson

Performs other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Completion of Grade 12, or equivalent

Must possess a valid NS drivers license with a good driving record

Must possess a valid Red Seal certificate in welding

Experience in a heavy equipment shop and/or fabrication shop

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

Must have a reasonable knowledge of Fleet Equipment

Must have full understanding of preventative maintenance, as it pertains to municipal equipment

Familiarity with computers and a computerized work order system

Must be able to work with minimum supervision, in a team environment

Must have good attendance, as well as be reliable and punctual.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

Candidates must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position and have valid licensing, as required.

WORK STATUS: Permanent full time

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hour per week - Monday to Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

SALARY: $41.52 per hour according to the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 108 and Halifax Regional Municipality.
