Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent full-time position of Fleet Tradesperson - Welder. The position will perform welding and fabrication on HRM owned heavy equipment, trucks, snowplows, etc., Must be self-motivated, dependable and be able to work well with others in a team environment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Welding in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions
  • Receive and complete work orders and assigned tasks through use of a computerized work order fleet management system.
  • Weld and/or cut with oxygen/acetylene
  • Take measurements, lay out work and calculate material requirements
  • Reading and interpreting of blue prints or plans pertaining to burning, fitting and welding
  • Various welding cutting and fitting repairs or construction to HRM equipment vehicles and plow attachments
  • Ability to design, fabricate and fit metal work
  • Maintains accurate records of work performed
  • Familiar with proper shop practices related to a welding shop
  • Ensures work completed meets specifications
  • Familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and their application
  • Participate with supporting the apprenticeship program as a journeyperson
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience:

  • Completion of Grade 12, or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid NS drivers license with a good driving record
  • Must possess a valid Red Seal certificate in welding
  • Experience in a heavy equipment shop and/or fabrication shop
  • Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Must have a reasonable knowledge of Fleet Equipment
  • Must have full understanding of preventative maintenance, as it pertains to municipal equipment
  • Familiarity with computers and a computerized work order system
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision, in a team environment
  • Must have good attendance, as well as be reliable and punctual.
  • Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

    WORK STATUS: Permanent full time

    HOURS OF WORK: 40 hour per week - Monday to Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

    SALARY: $41.52 per hour according to the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 108 and Halifax Regional Municipality.
