Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for three (3) seasonal, temporary positions of Events Support Coordinator in Parks & Recreation.

The Events Support Coordinator will be required to assist with research, planning, and implementation of several summer event programs. This will include Concert Series in both Halifax and Dartmouth, Canada Day, Natal Day, Vibrancy Festival, Bedford Days, Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition, Hopscotch, etc. The Events Support Coordinator will also be required to work with volunteers leading up to the event, as well as on event day.

This position is split between office-based administrative tasks required for event planning and on-site event delivery. The Events Support Coordinator is required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays throughout July and August.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform on-site event support, including stage management and assisting with operational needs as required.
  • Assist with the research, planning, and execution of summer events, focusing on programming, logistics, and promotion.
  • Act as a liaison with event volunteers to ensure successful event coordination.
  • Perform administrative tasks to support event operations.
  • Support other Events projects as needed.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience:

  • Completed or currently enrolled in a post-secondary education bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Public Relations, Commerce/ Management, Event Management, Fine Arts or Tourism
  • Event coordination experience with preference of outdoor event experience
  • Experience with managing event/business pages via social media
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application
  • Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and react quickly to changing circumstances
  • Must be able to perform physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects, walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions
  • Valid Class 5 NS driver's license with ability to drive large vehicles and cargo vans
  • Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

    Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

    WORK STATUS: Seasonal, Temporary

    HOURS OF WORK: Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, 35 hours per week. Weekend and holiday work is mandatory. Time off for additional hours worked will be scheduled within the standard 35-hour work week once the summer event schedule is finalized.

    SALARY: Non-Union; $20.00 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay) for 18 weeks

    START DATE: May 4, 2026

    WORK LOCATION: 40 Alderney Drive, and various event sites (Grand Parade, Dartmouth Ferry Terminal Park, Clam Harbour Beach etc.)
