As a Project Controller for the Nova Scotia Health project within our Advanced Oncology Solutions (AOS) finance team, you will be the commercial backbone for one of Varian’s most complex, high‑impact healthcare partnerships. You will ensure the financial health of a strategic project that is directly expanding access to advanced cancer care, driving financial performance, ensuring rigorous governance, and acting as a critical interface between customers, finance teams, and global leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Governance & Financial Stewardship
  • Lead project governance by ensuring all books and records are accurate, complete, and in full compliance with published accounting guidelines.
  • Monitor project milestones and contractual obligations, identifying financial risks or delays early to report potential exposures to management and Legal.
  • Manage balance sheet positions and perform reconciliations, including inter‑company order eliminations and contract revenue reconciliations.
  • Report Non‑Conformance Costs (NCC) and perform detailed risk analysis to protect project margins.
  • Strategic Forecasting & Planning
  • Drive the commercial execution plan for strategic projects, proposals, and Managed Equipment Service (MES) contracts.
  • Lead financial planning including budgeting, revenue forecasting, cost analysis, and margin tracking at the project level.
  • Evaluate cash flow and prepare detailed projections to ensure liquidity and financial health throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Validate planned vs. actual spend, identifying variances and driving corrective actions with project teams.
  • Contract & Commercial Management
  • Manage complex contracts, including price, cost, and margin analysis for contractual addendums or change requests.
  • Execute revenue reconciliation of contractual obligations and manage subject area subject matter to drive performance against complex goals.
  • Coordinate claim management with Legal and project stakeholders when deviations from the original contract occur.
  • Drive price and margin analysis for contractual addendums and performance‑based change requests.
  • Customer Engagement & Relationship Management
  • Act as the primary commercial contact for the customer, participating in regular meetings to review progress, payments, and purchase orders.
  • Align with customer finance teams on performance‑based contract baselining, measurement, and transparent reporting.
  • Partner with Customer Engagement Managers to drive financial execution during the operational phase, ensuring timely billing and accurate security instruments (e.g., LC or guarantees).
  • Manage relations with 3rd party financiers regarding project financing activities.
  • Operational Excellence & Leadership
  • Interface across cross‑functional areas including Sales, Order Management, Life Cycle Management, and Zones, coordinating with management.
  • Drive continuous improvement by contributing to administrative and ERP system enhancements to streamline financial reporting.
  • Support process standardization and provide functional guidance to project teams to ensure commercial best practices are followed.
Qualifications For Success
  • Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business and 10+ years of finance/business work experience.
  • Analytical Rigor:
    Ability to perform complex price/cost/margin analysis and manage multi‑year strategic contracts.
  • Communication:
    Exceptional ability to translate complex financial data for non‑finance stakeholders and customers.
  • Global Mindset:
    Comfortable working within a matrixed environment across multiple time zones and cultures.
